Coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19 is an infectious disease that is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The COVID-19 outbreak has proven to become a deadly disease and has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. There has been a huge amount of research on this novel coronavirus, but most of the research has not yet yielded profitable results for humanity in terms of saving lives. We see the research potential to even increase, but behind closed doors – as there has been a halt on the institutions and most if not all the research organizations or institutions are closing down as a precautionary step.

Why Free Covid-19 Genomics Research Training is important for your career?

Bioinformatics & Computational Biology play a key role in developing novel drug compounds and vaccines against the diseases that outbreak. Hence, there has been exponential growth in the use of computational biology and bioinformatics tools, databases, scripts, software suites and various other methodologies in developing vaccines, mine knowledge and process Coronavirus 2’s raw biological data.

How will this training be beneficial for you?

At BioCode, it is our first priority to provide the best platform for the students, instructors, researchers and teachers where they can learn Bioinformatics tools, databases, Biological programming in Python & R. Keeping our values in line, we’ve decided to provide FREE training on the Coronavirus genomics research. We provide 5 videos for free that teach you how to retrieve biological, genomic and annotation data for the novel Coronavirus 2. We are doing this as a small contribution for the scientific community.
Once you’ve gone through these videos, you’ll be able to retrieve genomic, proteomic, annotation & raw biological data related to Coronavirus 2 or any other species. Each video is accompanied with a transcription that guides you through the process in the textual manner.

How will you learn?

The entire training is pre-recorded and online, that means you can learn at your own pace and watch the lectures as many times as you want and complete the course whenever you have the time! So, all you have to do is click “Add to Cart” on this page, create an account and get the training for free. Afterwards, your account will automatically be activated and you will see all the training content on your learning dashboard, where you can access each lecture video along with its transcript and notes.

Is it for beginners?

Yes! This COVID-19 Genomic Research Training is for beginners who have no prior experience in Genomic Research. That means, you can get started right away and you will be taught everything you need during this training.

During the online training for genome data retrieval, I gained hands-on experience with various tools and functionalities of the UCSC Genome Browser.

Navigating the UCSC Genome Browser.
I learned how to use the Position/Search term box to visualize specific regions of the genome and how to access phylogenetic trees to understand evolutionary relationships.

Using the UCSC Table Browser
explored how to download and combine data from the Genome Browser database, and understood the significance of parameters like Assembly to specify genome versions.

Understanding Genomic Data Format.
I became familiar with different data formats like Gene Transfer Format (GTF) and Browser Extensible Data (BED) for creating custom tracks.

Visualizing Data
The training emphasized using tools like Repeat Masker to analyze repetitive elements and demonstrated how to interactively visualize genomic data.
Overall, the training provided a comprehensive understanding of how to retrieve, visualize, and analyze genomic data using the UCSC Genome Browser, enhancing my ability to conduct genomic research effectively.
